What is the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program?
The SSG Fox SPGP is a VA‑funded, community‑based suicide prevention initiative designed to reach Veterans, service members, and their families before a crisis occurs. The program expands suicide prevention efforts beyond traditional clinical settings by empowering local organizations to provide outreach, education, and supportive services tailored to Veterans at risk.
Services for Eligible Participants
We provide individualized and confidential case management to eligible Veterans, service members, and their families. Services are available statewide, with in‑person support on Oahu and telehealth services across the Hawaiian Islands. Case management includes coordination of:
- Assistance enrolling in VA care, advocacy, and connecting with VA mental health and primary care services.
- Supporting access to benefits, claims assistance, and other Veteran‑specific resources.
- Referrals to counseling, peer support, wellness programs, and community‑based mental health providers.
- Guidance accessing social services, housing programs, employment support, and other public benefits.
- Assistance addressing urgent stressors such as rental or utility arrears, childcare, employment challenges, and transportation barriers.
Workshops for the Community
We also offer community‑focused workshops designed to strengthen the safety net around Veterans and service members:
- Suicide Intervention and Prevention Training to equip community members with practical skills to recognize warning signs, respond effectively, and connect individuals to help.
- Mental Health Awareness and Stigma Reduction to educate communities to better understand mental health challenges and support those who may be struggling.
These workshops empower families, friends, neighbors, and community partners to play an active role in supporting the Veterans and service members in their lives.
